YOUR EXCLUSIVE-USE FARM VENUE IN THE ROLLING WILTSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE

What makes a wedding truly special? Do you dream of eloping to the country? Of an intimate wedding with just your nearest and dearest, or the party to beat all parties with all your friends and family? Should food be the centrepiece of your day, or would you prefer something a little more casual? Do you want a space to fill with flowers, or would you prefer a beautiful setting that only needs the lightest of touches to make your own? A barn or a marquee? Cosy indoor ceremony or an outdoor celebration? Whatever your dream, if you are after a country wedding we have a great range of options to suit you.

Thank you to @imogenxiana, @larajacquesphotography, @emilycollettephotography, @storyboxfilmsuk, @jevans_weddings, and @davidscammelphotography for the wonderful photos in our gallery, and to @theflowerfactory95, @mallowandmossflowers, @charlotte_phipps_florist, @seedandstemflorals, and @myflowerpatch for the beautiful flowers.

Here at The Ridgeway Barns we believe every wedding is unique, and we are passionate about putting our clients at the heart of everything we do. Flexibility underpins our ethos, and our dedicated events team will work with you to curate and deliver the event of your dreams, ensuring a truly memorable day for years to come. Whether it’s an intimate celebration in the farmhouse (capacity 24), a small wedding in our stretch tent (capacity 50), a larger celebration in our 19th century threshing barn (capacity 100 seated/120 standing), or even a marquee on the lawn (capacity 150), we have a great range of spaces for your celebrations.

For weekend events we offer three-day exclusive hire including accommodation for 15, allowing you to really make the most of your wedding; gathering with your closest friends and family the night before your big day, and extending celebrations into the Sunday if you wish. One-day, one-night and two-night options are available midweek. You are free to choose your own caterers and other suppliers, but we are always on hand to provide recommendations to suit your style. Throughout your wedding planning journey we provide wedding planning support, and day of the event coordination to ensure you can fully relax and enjoy your day.

Ceremonies at The Ridgeway Barns

Are you licenced for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships? Yes! We are licenced for indoor and outdoor civil marriages and civil partnership ceremonies. Choose an intimate celebration in the farmhouse (capacity 24), an indoor ceremony in the Threshing Barn (capacity 100), or say ‘I do’ under our beautiful oak-framed gazebo, with stunning views over the North Wessex Downs (capacity 150).

Is there an extra fee for holding our legal ceremony at the venue? We don’t charge extra for ceremonies when you book your wedding at The Ridgeway Barns, but you will need to book a registrar through Swindon Register Office and pay their fee (currently £560-£740). We advise you do this early to avoid disappointment.

At what time can we hold our ceremony? Celebrant-led ceremonies can be held at any time between 11am and dusk/6pm, although there is some flexibility on this. For legal ceremonies the standard times provided by Swindon Register Office are 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm.

Are we allowed confetti at The Ridgeway Barns? You are welcome to provide natural, biodegradable confetti for your guests to throw for that special photo.

Capacity

What is the capacity of the venue? The farmhouse has accommodation for up to 15 guests (plus a pop-up bed and a cot), and capacity for up to 24 (dining), or 24 (ceremony). For weddings, the Threshing Barn has capacity for 100 (seated) or 120 (evening) in the summer months (April – October), or 68 (seated) and 100 (evening) in the winter months (November – March). The higher summer capacity is facilitated by the inclusion of our stretch tent, providing a great space for your guests to mingle, whatever the weather. Outside we have ample space for outdoor ceremonies and marquee receptions for up to 150 people, including our own stretch tent which is ideal for smaller events, up to 50 (April – September only).

Can we squeeze in a few extra guests?
Weddings are complex events with several component parts, often including your ceremony, drinks reception, a seated meal and a party. While we all keep our fingers crossed for a glorious day for you and your guests to spread into the garden, unfortunately the weather is one thing we just can’t guarantee. The last thing we would want to do is push your guests out into the rain on a wet day while we re-set between elements, so for barn weddings we restrict numbers to 100 seated and 120 evening guests (April – October), or 68/100 (November-March). If you would like a larger wedding, we have capacity for up to 150 guests in a marquee (marquee not included).

Food and Drink

What catering do you provide on site? We work with some great local caterers who we are very happy to recommend. Please see our directory of trusted partners for more detail.

Do you allow external caterers?  Yes, we are happy to work with any professional caterer who holds a food hygiene certificate and public liability insurance. We recommend any caterer who has not worked with us before gets in touch prior to providing you with a quote.

What facilities do you have for our caterers use? Our facilities are evolving. In 2023 we provide power and water, but your caterers will need to provide their own catering space, catering equipment, crockery and cutlery. In 2024 additional facilities will be available ~ caterers are advised to speak to us for full details. We provide tables and chairs (for guests) when you book the barn, and all glassware for your event. For marquee events please arrange catering tent, power and furniture through your marquee supplier.

Will you run a bar for our wedding? The Ridgeway Barns is a fully licenced venue and we have our own well stocked and reasonably priced bar and staff who to run it on your big day, leaving you one less thing to worry about. Our bar stock and price list are available on request.

Can we provide our own alcohol?
If you would like to provide your own reception drinks, table wine and toasting drink we provide drinks service options starting at £12 per adult. This price includes receipt of your alcohol, chilling, storage, provision of glassware, preparation, and service of drinks. Please see our drinks options brochure for further detail.

Music & Entertainment

Can we have a live band or DJ at our wedding? We are fully licenced for playing both live and recorded music, and absolutely love a live band or great DJ at a wedding! We also have a PA system that you are welcome to use for your ceremony, speeches and background music.

Do you have a sound limit? Our licence means that music is limited to 95 dBA, which we find is more than loud enough for a good party. We will monitor sound levels throughout your event, and if required we will discreetly ask your band/DJ to reduce the volume. We do not currently use a sound limiter.

Do you allow candles, firepits, sparklers and fireworks? Our fire pit is included in the venue hire fee ~ we will light this after your wedding breakfast and manage it during your event. Unfortunately we do not allow fireworks or Chinese lanterns due to the risk to the farm, but we do accept candles (when held within heat resistant containers) and sparklers. Please see our T&Cs for full details (available on request).

Can our dog be included in our celebrations? We know all too well how your furry friend is part of your family and that you may want him or her to be part of your celebration, so we welcome dogs and some other animals (within reason) by prior agreement. Extra fees apply.

Transport and Finish

How do we get to The Ridgeway Barns? The Ridgeway Barns are located just 5 minutes drive from Junction 15 of the M4, so is easily accessible by car. Swindon train station is a 15-minute taxi ride away.

Is there parking on site? We have plenty of parking for all your guests, who are welcome to leave their cars overnight. If doing so, we ask that cars are collected by midday the day after your wedding, or by 4pm if you are extending your celebrations.

Taxis. Due to the remote location we advise that guests arrange transport home prior to your event. There is no public transport or pedestrian pathways along the road. A list of local taxi companies is available on request.

How late can we celebrate? Our normal finish time is midnight, with last orders at 11.30pm, last dance at 11.45pm and non-resident guests off site by midnight.

Can we invite our guests back on Sunday?
You have access to the farmhouse and gardens until 4pm Sunday, and you are welcome to invite your guests back for a buffet lunch or BBQ between 10am and 4pm on the Sunday if you wish. Additional fees apply to use the barn. If you intend to cater for more than 20 people, we ask that you use a professional caterer, and, depending on numbers we will provide a bar for your guests.

Accommodation

What accommodation is included? The farmhouse and two annexes are included in the venue hire fee and sleep 15, and we can provide a pop-up bed for a small additional fee. Please see our accommodation page for further detail. For weekend events you have the accommodation until 4pm Sunday. During the week our normal check out time is 10am.

Is there any more accommodation nearby? Check out our directory of trusted partners for other great accommodation in the area.

Is breakfast included? Accommodation is let on a self-catered basis. Breakfast hampers can be provided on request ~ please see our breakfast hamper options.

Venue hire prices vary depending on the size of your event, day of the week and time of year ~ with Summer Saturdays being the most popular time to marry. We try to keep it simple and fair. So, what do you need to know?

Day of your event? Weekend prices apply to any wedding taking place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and include two nights of accommodation for 15. Weekday prices apply to any wedding taking place on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and include one night of accommodation (except barn-only options).

Date of your event? Low season runs from November to March (excluding Christmas). High season runs from May to September, plus Christmas, with a peak in August. April and October class as mid-season. So the highest prices you see are our August prices, and the lowest prices are our low-season prices. Everything else is somewhere in between!
