Flexibility underpins our ethos, and our dedicated events team will work with you to curate and deliver the event of your dreams, ensuring a truly memorable day for years to come. Ceremonies at The Ridgeway Barns

Are you licenced for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships? Yes! We are licenced for indoor and outdoor civil marriages and civil partnership ceremonies. Choose an intimate celebration in the farmhouse (capacity 24), an indoor ceremony in the Threshing Barn (capacity 100), or say ‘I do’ under our beautiful oak-framed gazebo, with stunning views over the North Wessex Downs (capacity 120).

Is there an extra fee for holding our legal ceremony at the venue? No! We don’t charge extra for ceremonies when you book your wedding at The Ridgeway Barns, but you will need to book a registrar through Swindon Register Office and pay their fee (currently £580-£750). We advise you do this early to avoid disappointment.

At what time can we hold our ceremony? As a guide, celebrant-led ceremonies can be held at any time between 11am and dusk/6pm, although there is some flexibility on this. For legal ceremonies the standard times provided by Swindon Register Office are 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm, with 2pm being our favourite time!

Are we allowed confetti at The Ridgeway Barns? Yes, of course! If you’d like that fabulous confetti shot we just ask that you provide natural, biodegradable confetti (e.g. dried petals) for your guests to throw.

Capacity

What is the capacity of the venue?

~ For weddings, the Threshing Barn has capacity for 100 (seated) or 120 (evening) in the summer months (April – October), or 68 (seated) and 100 (evening) in the winter months (November – March). The higher summer capacity is facilitated by the inclusion of our stretch tent, providing a great space for your guests to mingle, whatever the weather. Outside we have ample space for outdoor ceremonies.

~ Coming in 2027 ~ our Granary Barn will increase the capacity of the venue to 120 day and 150 evening guests.

~ We have onsite accommodation for up to 18. The main farmhouse has six bedroom sleeping 11-12 ~ three king size rooms (all en-suite), two twin rooms and a single. There are two king/super king sized annexes which each sleep 2, taking the total to 15. In addition we can provide a pop-up bed and two travel cots. We also have a beautifully restored shepherd’s hut available May to September, sleeping 2.

~ For intimate weddings, the farmhouse has capacity for up to 24 (dining), or 24 (ceremony).

Can we squeeze in a few extra guests?
Weddings are complex events with several component parts, often including your ceremony, drinks reception, a seated meal and a party. While we all keep our fingers crossed for a glorious day for you and your guests to spread into the garden, unfortunately the weather is one thing we just can’t guarantee. The last thing we would want to do is push your guests out into the rain on a wet day while we re-set between elements, so for barn weddings we restrict numbers to 100 seated and 120 evening guests (April – October), or 68/100 (November-March). A slightly higher capacity is possible if you are not holding a ceremony on site.

Food and Drink

What catering do you provide on site? We work with some great local caterers who we are very happy to recommend. Please see our directory of trusted partners for more detail.

Do you allow external caterers?  Yes, we are happy to work with any professional caterer who holds a food hygiene certificate and public liability insurance. We recommend any caterer who has not worked with us before gets in touch to discuss facilities and access prior to providing you with a quote.

What facilities do you have for our caterers use? We have a commercial kitchen in the Threshing Barn, available for use by professional caterers. This includes an oven, hot cupboard, induction hob and refrigerator. We recommend any caterer who has not worked with us before gets in touch to discuss facilities and access prior to providing you with a quote. We provide tables and chairs (for guests) when you book the barn, and all glassware for your event.

Will you run a bar for our wedding? The Ridgeway Barns is a fully licenced venue and we have our own well stocked and reasonably priced bar and staff who run it on your big day, leaving you one less thing to worry about. Our bar stock and price list are available on request.

Can we provide our own alcohol?
If you would like to provide your own reception drinks, table wine and toasting drink we provide drinks service options starting at £12.50 per adult. This price includes receipt of your alcohol, chilling, storage, provision of glassware, preparation, and service of drinks. Please see our drinks options brochure for further detail.

Music & Entertainment

Can we have a live band or DJ at our wedding? We are fully licenced for playing both live and recorded music, and absolutely love a live band or great DJ at a wedding! We also have a PA system that you are welcome to use for your ceremony, speeches and background music.

Do you have a sound limit? Our licence means that music is limited to 95 dBA, which we find is more than loud enough for a good party. We will monitor sound levels throughout your event, and if required we will discreetly ask your band/DJ to reduce the volume. We do not currently use a sound limiter.

Do you allow candles, firepits, sparklers and fireworks? Our fire pit is included in the venue hire fee ~ we will light this after your wedding breakfast and manage it during your event. Unfortunately we do not allow fireworks or Chinese lanterns due to the risk to the farm, but we do accept candles (when held within heat resistant containers) and sparklers. Please see our T&Cs for full details (available on request).

Can our dog be included in our celebrations? We know all too well how your furry friend is part of your family and that you may want him or her to be part of your celebration, so we welcome dogs and some other animals (within reason) by prior agreement. Extra fees apply.

Transport and Finish

How do we get to The Ridgeway Barns? The Ridgeway Barns are located just 5 minutes drive from Junction 15 of the M4, so is easily accessible by car. Swindon train station is a 15-minute taxi ride away.

Is there parking on site? We have plenty of parking for all your guests, who are welcome to leave their cars overnight. If doing so, we ask that cars are collected by midday the day after your wedding, or by 2pm if you are extending your celebrations.

Taxis. Due to the remote location we advise that guests arrange transport home prior to your event. There is no public transport or pedestrian pathways along the road. Please check out our list of local taxi companies.

How late can we celebrate? Our normal finish time is midnight, with last orders at 11.30pm, last dance at 11.45pm and non-resident guests off site by midnight. Late finishes (to 1am) are available for an additional fee.

Can we invite our guests back on Sunday?
You have access to the farmhouse and gardens until 2 pm Sunday, and you are welcome to invite your other guests back for a buffet lunch or BBQ on the Sunday if you wish. Additional fees apply. If you intend to cater for more than 20 people, we ask that you use a professional caterer, and, depending on numbers we will provide a bar for your guests.

Accommodation

What accommodation is included? The farmhouse and two annexes are typically included in the venue hire fee.

Suggested Itinerary for your day

Every wedding is different, but to help with your planning we have provided an example timeline for your wedding day below.

1 pm ~ Guest arrival
We recommend inviting your guests to arrive 30 to 60 minutes prior to your ceremony. The bar will be open and guests will have chance to relax before the big ‘I Do!’

2 pm ~ Your wedding ceremony
Civil ceremonies typically take around 20 minutes, and we find 2 pm is the perfect time to start your celebrations (the register office also offer ceremonies at 12.30 pm, 3.30 pm and 5 pm).

2.30 pm ~ Drinks Reception
A great opportunity to catch up with your guests, grab those all-important group photos, and maybe share some tasty canapes with fabulous music.

4 pm to 6/6.30 pm ~ Wedding Breakfast & Speeches
Dine in style with your guests. We recommend allowing 30 minutes for starters, 60 minutes for your main course and 30 minutes for dessert. Speeches may take place before, during or after your meal, and can take anything from 10 to 90 minutes!

6.30 pm to 7.30 pm ~ Cocktail Hour
You may want to provide drinks or some live entertainment during the transition from food to your evening party, maybe even a couple’s choice cocktail hour! (Check out our drinks options brochure for detail). This is also a great time for any evening guests to arrive.

7-8 pm ~ First Dance
It’s entirely up to you whether you have a formal first dance as a couple, but some time between 7 pm and 8 pm is a great time to start your party.

8.30 pm ~ Evening Food
Dancing is hungry work, so we always recommend providing evening food to keep your guests fuelled into the evening!

11.30 pm ~ Bar closes
Our normal finish time is midnight, with bar close at 11.30 and music off at 11.45 pm. Later finishes are available.

Venue hire prices vary depending on the size of your event, day of the week and time of year ~ with Summer Saturdays being the most popular time to marry. We try to keep it simple and fair. So, what do you need to know?

Day of your event? Weekend prices apply to any wedding taking place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and include two nights of accommodation for 15. Weekday prices apply to any wedding taking place Monday to Thursday, and typically include one night of accommodation (except barn-only options).

Date of your event? Low season runs from November to March (excluding Christmas). High season runs from May to September, plus Christmas. April and October class as mid-season. So the highest prices you see are our summer prices, and the lowest prices are our low-season prices. Everything else is somewhere in between! Please download our brochure for further details.
